Update: Uncharted 3 interview, AvT LAN 2012

It’s perhaps a little late to capitalise on the Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception hype train, but Social Media NZ recently published my  video interview with the game’s lead FX artist, Keith Guerrette.

Bear in mind while watching this that Social Media NZ is not a site for gamers, and so my question line had to be quite different from what I would normally adopt. In particular, we chose to inquire about the social media aspect of Uncharted 3, which proves to be a fairly compelling part of the game’s features set. Also, I kinda hate how I look on camera. I know that everybody does, but I have this annoying tendency to bounce my head extremely enthusiastically the whole time. It’s definitely something I need to work on. You’ll see what I mean if you watch…

Also, last weekend I headed to Wellington to check out Adversity Gaming’s Welly LAN 2012. It’s the second annual Xbox 360 LAN hosted by the AvT Gaming community, and it looks like a whole lot of fun. There were competitive tournaments for Halo: Reach, Modern Warfare 3, Gears of War 3, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Super Street Fighter IV and more. I was there working on a bit of a secret project (hopefully I can share more on that a little later), but watching it all just made me want to take part.

I’ve not had too much time to game myself recently, although I did pick up Resident Evil: Revelations and the new Circle Pad Pro for 3DS yesterday. So far, it’s a damn impressive display of how the gap between handheld and console games is closing. It seems that games for portables are certainly no longer stripped-back, watered-down versions of their console counterparts. The Circle Pad Pro takes a little getting used to, and camera control using the extra analogue nub can be a little finicky, but overall the experience is rather positive.

Finally, I have some very big news that I can share with you all sometime in the next few days. Keep an eye on the site (or Twitter or Google+).
