E noho ra!

Well, this is probably going to be my last post to this site from New Zealand!

It’s been a crazy seven days. Just over a week ago I checked my bank-account balance just to make sure that everything was in order for my final rent payment to process. I noticed an international ATM fee was my most recent transaction, with an unusual sum of money withdrawn immediately below it.

Turns out I was caught up in a new development of the recent card-skimming story that’s been in media over here lately. Around $330 was taken out of my cheque account. Luckily there wasn’t much more in there as most of my money had been transferred to a savings account in preparation for my move to the States.

A few friends who happened to come along to our going-away party were also caught up in this, which led us to believe that the bar at which we held it may have been where the cards were skimmed. However, it looks less and less likely that this bar was involved in any way whatsoever.

Anyways, this all went down in what was essentially my final week in the country, along with a couple of interviews with the NZ Herald and even an appearance on ONE News :/ It just all made an already stressful week even more stressful as Jen and I cleared out of our Auckland apartment and packed our bags as efficiently as possible.

We’re in Matamata with my parents now. We’re all packed, the money has been returned to my account and we’re pretty much ready to go. We fly out of Auckland Airport early on Tuesday morning.

It’s weird to think that I’ll be half a world away in only a few days’ time and that I don’t know when I’ll get to see it again with my own eyes. But I’m super excited about the new life that Jen and I have ahead of us.
